The price isn’t great, but the value sneaks higher for me for the convenience reasons I mentioned. As with all Apple products, you have to pay a premium for this case. It’s worth mentioning again how great it is not to have to charge the keyboard or worry about manually connecting it. The magnetic attachments work well, although it did take some getting used to in terms of how strong they hold. The keys have a satisfying feel when typing and the physical size is very comfortable – on the 12.9 inch iPad, it’s a full-width keyboard. And it’s lightness is fantastic when I’m holding the iPad vertically. It’s surprisingly light, yet still somehow is quite stable. Also, apparently the Magic Keyboard is actually heavier than the iPad itself, which didn’t sound great to me.Īfter using this Smart Keyboard Folio for a few weeks, I’m extremely impressed. I use tablets fairly often in the vertical position and I didn’t want to remove the tablet every time I did that. Although I was interested in the impressive viewing angles and more Macbook-like keys on the Magic Keyboard, ultimately the Smart Keyboard Folio won me over.

I pretty quickly discarded the idea of a less expensive 3rd party keyboard due to less convenient bluetooth connection and possible battery/charging concerns. I watched quite a few YouTube videos on the subject, and ultimately it came down to a decision between the original Apple Smart Keyboard Folio and the newer Apple Magic Keyboard. Note I pass my "used" Apple goodies down to family members/friends.When I decided to purchase a new iPad Pro, I had some pretty extensive internal debate as to which keyboard case to use. I only use the MK when I'm in a coffee shop, traveling, or craft beer pub ? So keeping the white MK clean seemed like it would be a constant hassle.įinally, I thought if the 2022 iPP beckons me with better performance/looks/functionality, I doubt very much that the 2021 MK would work with a 2022 iPP. Yes, I chickened out on the white color version. In fact I skinned my 2020 black MK, with a blue skin, due to cleanliness issues. The other reason, not having to do with fit or function was the white 2021 MK (though it looks fabulous with my silver iPP) it seemed like it would be very, very hard to keep clean. So minor fit issues didn't really make the 2021 MK worth it for me as I already had the 2020 MK. In the end I did not keep the 2021 MK as I don't use the MK all of the time. I don't know, but the 2021 MK really grabbed on to my 2021 MK. Some have suggested my 2020 MK's magnets weaken over time.
One thing I did like was the 2021 MK's mounting magnets seemed stronger.
Others say using a screen protecter with the 2020 MK and the 2021 iPP is not a good idea, due to the tight fit. And with no charging or pairing required, just attach the keyboard and start typing. But, I found it discernible when I checked out the 2021 MK with my 2021 iPP. The Smart Keyboard Folio for 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2018) is a full-size keyboard when you need it, provides elegant front and back protection when you don't and allows for convenient viewing angles. I had previously used the 2020 MK with a 2020 iPP.Īs others report the differences in thickness isn't great. I have the 2020 MK and use it with my 2021 iPP 12.9".
